The 70s are back: How to Style Black Flared Pants for the Winter

… well, first of all: Happy Second Advent! Hope you’ll have a sweet and calm day!

Second of all… I want to talk about flared pants! We have come a long way from low-waist skinny jeans, over to Mom Jeans and now it seems like wide pants, and also flared pants have gained their acceptance back! During the last years, the fashion industry wanted to show us how cool flared pants are, but failed every time. We have seen them all over the runways, but nobody really embraced. It just was not time for flared pants yet – out mind still associated them too much with the 70s.. the shock was still too deep. I mean, oh boy did it take us long to get over skinny jeans and jeggings! I’m super glad now that we can wear denim that does not completely squeeze our legs.

Flared Pants on the rise

So, Mom Jeans are socially acceptable now – they even have reached the late adopters, or mainstream. I personally love Mom Jeans and looking at my closet, they have clearly taken over my skinny jeans. Lately though, I needed something new. Here in Copenhagen, a lot of girls wear straight pants – cloth pants, not denim! I guess it’s a Scandinavian thing. I also noticed many of those cloth pants are slightly flared… and I liked it! So I browsed through my favorite shops to look for some flared inspiration, which was when I found those super cool, black flared jeans from ASOS.

How to combine flared pants?

When I first put those pants on, it just felt so right. They are high-waisted, so perfectly keeping my little belly in shape, and very importantly, they are long! All of my other jeans are just not long enough and in the winter my ankles are always freeeezing. The length also has another advantage: you’re legs just look suuuper long, especially when worn with heeled boots. Accordingly, you want to put the focus on your legs when wearing flared pants. So I combined them with a simple black turtleneck, which I tucked in. On top I decided to go with a short fake fur jacket, since my coats would probably cover up the nice flared shape of the pants that I obviously want to show off. I ended up really loving this outfit, so I went out with Rebekah to shoot it in the beautiful evening sun.
