Thoughts | What is my vision?

What is worse than being blind?
– Being born with sight but no vision.

Klingt erstmal sehr beeindruckend, richtig?

Sounds pretty impressive right? When I heard this quote I was directly convinced by the message behind it. Sounds about right, doesn’t it? Giving it a second thought, I started doubting this quote when I tried to figure out what exactly my vision was – I realized that I couldn’t. But what do they actually mean with „vision“? Having a clear goal like becoming a doctor and saving people’s lives or founding an own company? If it came down to this kind of vision, then I guess that most of us do not have one. Even I only have a very vague idea of what I want to do with my life. Sure there is a small amount of people that is already thoroughly planing their life because they have this strong believe that they know where they will end up. But to be honest, I don’t think that this is even possible. The world and our lives are filled with thousands of options, incidents and surprises. By establishing already now an inflexible plan, we would miss out on so many opportunities. So, having no lifetime goal does not mean that you do not have a vision and I guess this quote also does not want to imply this. I believe a vision does not have to be something big or ultimate. It can also be something like an attitude towards life, like trying to be a good, honest, friendly or helpful person. It embraces all these often unconscious reasons why we decide every day to live, go out, grow and love.  And as I reflected about this quote for the third time, it made even more sense.
