Fashionclash Festival Maastricht 2014 – Going Backstage

Keine Ahnung.

Maastricht is such a small city – but it really has so much to offer. There is one event, of which I am especially very proud of: Maastricht’s little FashionWeek – The Fashionclash Festival. Already last year I attended the event and simply loved everything about it. You can check out the post here and here. However, this year you might have noticed that I changed my perspective – from sitting in the audience to walking on the runway. Alright… what was I doing there?
To be honest, I never really wanted to follow the path of a model, but when you deal so much with the fashion industry, one day you start thinking about all the stuff that is happening backstage. Working together with so many talented and diverse people, presenting their work and being part of the fashion chaos – I wanted to know what that feels like. Walking down the catwalk with all eyes on you for a few seconds. The honor of representing a designer’s hard work. That pressure to not mess it up. The need to be confident and to not get intimidated by all the people looking at you. This is something which is not only important for modeling, but especially in real life. We are too insecure, care too much about what other people think and get nervous too quickly once we get full attention. I personally really want to work on this.
Of course walking up and down the catwalk for a few times wont solve this problem, but the fact that I managed to not mess it up kind of gives me a good feeling and tells me that I do not have to be afraid and can be confident in front of so many people.
Anyway, I loved the atmosphere backstage. All those diverse, talented and amazing people – designers, make-up artists, hairdressers, the planners of the event and all the other helping hands were giving their best and together created such a unique event. Also the other models were so lovely and I did not notice competition or jealousy. We became friends. All those people were all part of it and together we have created a great atmosphere, which I think also was reflected in the success of the event.
My Conclusion? Well, I had an amazing experience and I am really happy that I was given this opportunity when I spontaneously went to the casting. I did not really have that much hope, but I was already proud that I tried it at least. Cause if not trying it now, when else? With my almost 21 years I am already kind of too old for this industry.
Do I want to keep up the modeling work? I really have no idea. But realistically speaking, I think there are just too many factors speaking against it. And also, I love sitting in the audience and enjoying the show.
